Education requires more than just books; it requires dignity. At Soma Nuru, we believe that the environment in which a child learns tells them how much they are valued. Today, our school stands as a sanctuary of excellence in the Korogocho slums—a hub for 105 pupils and a dedicated team of 6 skilled teachers.
105 Students, 5 Classrooms: A Growing Mission
Currently, our school consists of five classrooms that provide a safe, focused escape from the nearby dumping sites. These rooms are more than just four walls; they are workshops of the future. However, the demand for quality education in Korogocho is vast.
While we are proud to support our current students, we are constantly faced with the difficult reality of having to turn children away. The need in our community is far greater than our current means, and every day we work toward the goal of expanding our capacity to ensure no child is left behind.
The Playgroup: A Sanctuary for our Youngest
For our youngest learners, we have established a playgroup for 35 children. In an environment as challenging as the slums, these early years are critical. Our playgroup offers these young kids a vital escape from a harsh reality, providing them with a colorful, safe space to simply be children. Through play, curiosity, and care, we are laying the foundations for a lifetime of learning before they even enter a formal classroom.
